Privacy policy

Your resume is yours. We collect as little as we can, use it only to run ResumePlusTools, and never sell it or use it for advertising.

Who we are

ResumePlusTools (“we”, “us”) runs this website and the resume builder at app.resumeplustools.com. For anything about your information, email contact@resumeplustools.com.

If you use the builder without an account

What you type stays in your own browser (its local storage), on your device. We do not receive it, except at the moment you download a PDF: the resume is sent to our server so we can check it and approve the download, and it is not stored. Clearing your browser’s data for this site deletes the draft.

If you create an account

  • Account details: your name, email address, whether you have confirmed it, and your password, which we store only as a secure one-way hash. We cannot see your password.
  • Your resumes: the content you write, each resume’s name, template and design settings, and when it was created and changed.
  • Sign-in sessions: while you are signed in we keep a session record with your IP address and browser type, to keep your account secure.

Information collected to keep the service safe

To stop abuse, such as repeated sign-up or password attempts, we briefly count requests by IP address. Our hosting provider also keeps standard web server logs (IP address, pages requested, browser type and time) for a limited period. Our own error logs never include resume content, names, email addresses or passwords.

Why we use it

  • To provide the service you ask for: saving your resumes, signing you in and making your PDFs. This is necessary to provide the service to you.
  • To send account emails: confirming your email address, resetting your password, and confirming when you delete your account. We do not send marketing emails.
  • To keep the service secure and working, and to prevent abuse. This is in our legitimate interest and yours.

We do not sell or rent your information, share it for advertising, use it to build marketing profiles, or use your resumes to train AI models.

Where it is stored and who can access it

Our website, the resume builder, its database and our email service run on servers provided by our hosting company in London, United Kingdom. If you live in Australia, the United States or elsewhere, your information is therefore stored outside your country. Our host provides the servers and does not use your information for its own purposes. We do not use any analytics, advertising or tracking services, and the site loads no content from other companies.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and resumes: until you delete them.
  • Deleted resumes: they go to the Bin for 30 days so you can restore them, then are deleted for good. You can also delete them from the Bin straight away.
  • Sign-in sessions: they end after 7 days without use, or when you sign out or reset your password.
  • Backups: we back up the database daily and keep each backup for 14 days, so deleted information disappears from backups within 14 days.

Your choices and rights

  • See and download your information: the Account page in the builder lets you download your account details and all your resumes in a standard format (JSON). For a copy of anything else, such as your sign-in records, email us.
  • Correct it: edit your details and resumes at any time.
  • Delete it: delete any resume, or your whole account and every resume, from the Account page. Account deletion happens straight away.
  • Anything else: depending on where you live, you may have further rights, such as to object to or restrict how we use your information. Email us and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first. You can also complain to your data protection regulator: in Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au); in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).

Security

Everything is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are stored only as secure hashes, sign-in cookies cannot be read by scripts, and each person’s resumes can only be opened from their own account. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach ever affects your information, we will tell you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.

Cookies

We use one cookie, only to keep you signed in. See our cookies page.

Children

ResumePlusTools is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes we will also email account holders before they take effect.
